My Mother
My Mother (Ma as we call her), Parvin Akhter Zahan, was
born on 25th December 1955 in Munshipara under the Gaibandha district, at her grandfather’s house. Her childhood
memories are full with events and incidents in the Rangpur city, famous in heritage from the gone-by British Empire in undivided
India.
She passed SSC (Secondary School Certificate) Examination in 1970 from Rangpur Government
Girls’ High School and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) Examination in 1972 from Government Carmichael College, Rangpur.
In 1975, she earned a B. A. (Hon's) degree in Economics from Rajshahi University.
A year later, she completed her M. A. degree in Economics in the same institution.
Her career began in 1985 when she joined Munshiganj Government Girls’ College
in Munshiganj district as a lecturer in Economics. In 1992, she was transferred to Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’
College at Dhaka and served there until 2002. This was a lucky year for her since she received her first promotion and joined
Brahmanbaria Government College as an assistant professor. In 2003, she was transferred to Kabi Nazrul Government College
at Dhaka and is currently serving there. Year 2004 added another success to her career as she was nominated one of the Head
Examiners under Dhaka Education Board.
